On Thursday, the National Bank Open presented by Rogers celebrated National Bank Day, emphasizing the importance of gender equity in tennis. The event spotlighted Tennis Canada’s Game. Set. Equity. Commitment (GSE) initiative, which focuses on promoting opportunities for women and girls in the sport.
Celebrating Progress in Female Participation
According to the latest GSE impact report released earlier this year, there has been a significant increase in female participation. Notably, 50% of participants in the U12 programs at Tennis Canada events now identify as girls, up from 35% in 2022. This change highlights the positive influence of visibility in encouraging young girls to engage with tennis.
Representation at All Levels
Tennis Canada proudly showcases its commitment to representation, ensuring women hold prominent roles across all departments within the organization. This approach not only supports the tournament aspects but also enhances tennis development initiatives, thereby serving as role models for future generations of female players.
Meet the Women Behind the Scenes
The National Bank Open in Montreal is not just about the players on the court; it also features a team of dedicated women who contribute to various essential functions:
