Welcoming a New Era in Women’s Health in Winchester
WINCHESTER — Women in the local community now have access to a unique space dedicated to holistic health care and wellness services tailored specifically for them. The Sage Center for Women’s Health has officially opened its doors at 420 W. Jubal Early Drive, suite 105, providing comprehensive support for women navigating various life stages.
Your Holistic Wellness Hub
This center harnesses the expertise of a dedicated team of female practitioners who are committed to guiding women through life’s transitions, from pregnancy and postpartum to premenopause and menopause, alongside general wellness and health support.
Meet the Practitioners
The Sage Center is home to six skilled professionals, each offering specialized services for women’s needs. Julie Carestio, the founder and owner, possesses a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and offers women’s physical therapy, functional medicine, and herbal remedies. Licensed massage therapist Rebecca Wilson-Nagy provides therapeutic massages and energy healing. Natalia Ossivnova, a registered nurse, specializes in lactation consultations and women’s circles. Yoga is guided by Brandie Leonard, a registered instructor.
Aimee Akers, a Doctor of Nursing Practice and certified professional midwife, along with Desiree Cripps, a registered nurse and fellow certified professional midwife from Ten Moons Midwifery, deliver holistic full-scope midwifery care. Akers offers lactation consultations and holistic gynecological services, while Cripps focuses on home birth, prenatal, postpartum, newborn care, and therapeutic nutrition for fertility and maternity. Their services also include hormone replacement therapy, catering to women throughout all stages of life. Innovative Imaging Services
Sage Center for Women’s Health is also set to collaborate with two businesses specializing in imaging services. The Longevity Center from Charlottesville provides Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging for breast health monitoring, pain diagnosis, and early disease detection. Longevity Ultrasound will also be visiting the center, offering various body evaluations.
The Approach to Holistic Care
Carestio emphasizes that the Sage team does not diagnose medical conditions but rather collaborates with women based on the information provided by their healthcare providers. The goal is to enhance women’s health in conjunction with their existing medical care through natural methods like tinctures, teas, supplements, and massage.
“We aspire to bridge the gap between traditional and alternative medicine,” Carestio explains. “While we have qualified professionals specializing in their fields, we’re also committed to integrating our services with input from clients’ doctors.” She clarifies that any changes in medication should always be discussed with a healthcare provider.
Deep Solutions Through Functional Medicine
With her background in functional medicine, Carestio takes a holistic view to address root causes of symptoms. “We’re here to explore issues like sleep troubles and chronic pain by digging into a client’s history and story. I love uncovering the deeper answers to their wellness questions,” she shares.
In her physical therapy practice, Carestio specializes in women’s health, including areas that are often overlooked, such as pelvic floor disorders, urinary incontinence, and diastasis, a common condition during pregnancy.
A Collaborative Space
If Carestio finds that a client’s needs lie outside her expertise, she’s surrounded by a team ready to assist. “Our team is well-versed in all facets of a woman’s life cycle, including menopause where our midwives can provide hormone therapy. We also have space for small yoga and movement classes,” she notes.
A Retreat for Women
The Sage Center offers a tranquil environment for massage, energy work, and regular gatherings, ensuring that “everyone on the team can contribute to a woman’s healing journey,” Carestio asserts.
Yoga instructor Brandi Leonard shares her enthusiasm for the center’s mission, stating, “This space is meeting a significant need for holistic health care. It feels more like community care, emphasizing personalized and compassionate approaches.”
Leonard enjoys leading yoga sessions at Sage, which allows her to provide individualized attention within small groups, creating a nurturing space for wellness. “Here, you can walk through the door and design a day focused on your health—attending yoga, getting a Pap smear, receiving a massage, consulting with a midwife, and joining supportive women’s circles,” she enthuses.
Embracing Collaboration
Rebecca Wilson-Nagy expresses her excitement about the collaborative nature of the Sage Center. “It’s remarkable how each of us brings our essence into this space. We approach our practices holistically, considering each client’s physical, energetic, and emotional well-being,” she shares.
Wilson-Nagy felt an immediate connection when Carestio invited her to join the team, appreciating the diverse yet complementary skill sets present. “This collaboration allows us to serve our clients in a deeper and more impactful manner,” she adds.
