Alejandra Hidalgo Vega Receives All-MEAC First Team Recognition for Third Consecutive Year
DURHAM, N.C. – Alejandra Hidalgo Vega, a junior from North Carolina Central University (NCCU), has been honored for the third straight year with a spot on the women’s tennis All-MEAC First Team. This prestigious selection was determined through votes cast by head coaches and sports information directors within the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
The announcement was made during the MEAC Tennis Awards ceremony held on Wednesday evening, just days before the start of the 2025 MEAC Tennis Championships, scheduled for April 24-26.
Outstanding Performance in Singles
Hailing from Madrid, Spain, Hidalgo Vega concluded the regular season with an impressive singles record of 12 wins and 5 losses, competing primarily in the No. 1 position. In conference play, she achieved a 4-2 record, securing victories against players from Howard, Coppin State, Morgan State, and Norfolk State, contributing significantly to NCCU’s success at the MEAC Round-Up where they managed to sweep all matches.
Notable Victories Against Non-Conference Opponents
In addition to her conference success, Hidalgo Vega clinched important wins against several non-conference opponents, including East Carolina, Longwood, Quinnipiac, and Radford, showcasing her competitiveness and determination throughout the season.
Excellence in Doubles Competition
A three-time MEAC Women’s Player of the Week, Hidalgo Vega has also demonstrated commendable skills in doubles play. In this respect, she participated in both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions, finishing the doubles season with an overall record of 11-7. Partnering with freshman Valentina de Aquino Monsanto, the duo achieved a winning record of 6-3, including a 4-2 performance in conference matches.
Heading into the Championships
The NCCU Eagles are entering the MEAC Tennis Championships as the No. 2 seed, boasting an overall record of 11 wins and 8 losses, with a conference record of 5-1. They are set to face No. 7 seed Coppin State in the quarterfinals, scheduled for Thursday, April 24, at 8 a.m. at the Cary Tennis Park.
