Fundraising Event in Selah to Honor Emily Harris
Brian Harris, determined to honor the memory of his daughter Emily, is organizing a fundraising event in Selah, Washington. In January 2020, Emily was tragically killed by her husband. Since then, Harris has been dedicated to raising funds for the Emily Harris Memorial Foundation, with all proceeds directed to the YWCA women’s shelter in Yakima.
Event Details
The fundraising effort will take place from June 8 to June 10. During this time, Brian Harris will reside in a large dog kennel situated in front of his dealership, Brian Harris Used Cars, located at 622 S. First Street, Selah. This year, Harris aims to raise an ambitious $150,000, building on last year’s success which raised $98,000.
Symbolism Behind The Cage
Harris’s decision to stay in the cage throughout the event serves as a poignant symbol of the entrapment faced by women in abusive relationships. He will only leave the kennel briefly for bathroom breaks, emphasizing the seriousness of the cause. He invites the public to stop by, engage, and donate to this meaningful cause.
Participate in the Competition
A unique feature of this year’s fundraiser is the “Jail and Bail Team Challenge,” set to occur on June 9 and 10. Teams of six from the local community will have the chance to compete in various fun and fast-paced challenges. Teams are encouraged to contact Brian Harris at 1-509-952-7333 to register and secure a time slot for this engaging competition.
Supporting Victims of Domestic Violence
The Emily Harris Memorial Foundation aims to provide essential resources and support for women escaping abusive situations. Harris’s ongoing commitment reflects not only a personal journey but a broader mission to raise awareness and aid for those affected by domestic violence.
Get Involved
The community is encouraged to participate in this heartfelt initiative. By joining the fundraiser, not only can individuals contribute to a significant cause, but they can also help break the cycle of abuse.
