Important Life Lessons on Volunteerism
During the commemoration of World International Volunteer Day at the Holiday Resort Hotel in Onitsha, a prominent guest lecturer, Rev. Elisha Umeh, shared crucial messages regarding the challenges individuals may face in life. His lecture emphasized alertness towards three particular aspects: money, relationships with women, and friendships.
Warnings About Life’s Distractions
Rev. Umeh articulated that money is fundamentally at the center of many life complications, famously dubbing it “the root of all evils.” He urged attendees to navigate these challenges mindfully to ensure a life worthy of emulation. “If one can rise above these temptations, survival in life is well within reach,” he affirmed.
He also highlighted the significance of selfless acts of kindness, suggesting they may pave the way for greater spiritual fulfillment.
The Role of Volunteering in Society
Comrade Orienta Okey Donwilliams, National President of Humanitarian World Outreach International, underscored the importance of the event as a platform for volunteers and organizations to showcase their contributions to community betterment.
“This day presents a unique opportunity for volunteers and organizations to express their shared values and promote awareness about their efforts,” he stated. Donwilliams emphasized the universal nature of volunteering across various cultures and emphasized its role in improving others’ lives.
Health and Well-being Tips
Donwilliams also provided actionable health tips for longevity, recommending regular exercise, exposure to sunlight, adequate hydration, and proper nutrition. He highlighted these as fundamental aspects of maintaining good health, dubbing them the “eight doctors of life.”
A Call for Unity
In his remarks, Comrade Vincent Ezekwueme, State Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization, reiterated the essence of human connection: “Helping others transcends tribal, religious, or political affiliations and is pivotal for achieving a virtuous life,” he stated.
Community Support Initiatives
Highlights from the celebration included the distribution of certificates to participants and food items such as water, biscuits, and cash to the less fortunate at the Ogbaru relief market, promoting compassion and community support.
