Recent Achievements in Women’s Tennis
SAN FRANCISCO — The Pepperdine women’s tennis team showcased impressive talent this week at the Battle in the Bay Classic, hosted by the California Tennis Club and the University of California. Sophomores Anastasiia Grechkina and Alexia Harmon captured the doubles title, while Grechkina also claimed victory in singles, marking a strong beginning for the Waves’ fall season.
The Waves concluded the tournament with an outstanding overall record of 12 wins and only 2 losses, reflecting their strong performance across all matches. In the doubles final, Harmon and Grechkina defeated Arizona’s duo of Haylee Conway and Zoya Chulak in a thrilling tiebreaker to earn the championship.
Throughout the tournament, the pair exhibited consistent skill, emerging victorious in all four doubles matches against teams from TCU, Cal Poly, and Oklahoma State leading up to the final.
Grechkina demonstrated her prowess in singles, finishing with a perfect 5-0 record. In the finals, she faced Oklahoma State’s Rose Marie Nijkamp, winning decisively in straight sets. Impressively, Grechkina did not lose a single set during the tournament. Harmon also made an impact by reaching the quarterfinals, winning her first two singles matches, while teammate Liam Oved secured a first-round victory.
The Battle in the Bay Classic featured a competitive field, including teams from various universities such as Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado, and UCLA among others.

The Pepperdine women’s tennis team has established itself as a formidable presence in collegiate athletics, participating in 40 NCAA tournaments since 1982, including an impressive streak of 28 consecutive appearances. The program has achieved notable success with three national runner-up titles in singles and doubles, and it has reached the NCAA Regionals as a team in eight of the last nine tournaments.
