Grace Summerhays Named 2025 Big 12 Women’s Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year

IRVING, Texas – In a significant recognition, Grace Summerhays of the Sun Devil Women’s Golf team has been honored as the 2025 Big 12 Women’s Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year. This announcement marks a noteworthy achievement for Summerhays, reflecting her exemplary prowess both on the golf course and in academics.

A Stellar Academic and Athletic Career

Summerhays is concluding one of the most decorated careers in Arizona State women’s golf history. Her selection as the top student-athlete in the conference underscores her accomplishments, as noted by coaches from competing teams.

Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye emphasized her pride in Summerhays’s achievement, stating, “This is a tremendous honor and reflects Grace’s dedication to Arizona State, our golf team, and being a student-athlete. Congratulations also to our Academic Coach, Jon Erwin, for his outstanding work in helping Grace graduate within three and a half years while maintaining an impressive GPA.”

Summerhays’s Achievements

Throughout her time with the Sun Devils, Summerhays has consistently been a reliable competitor, contributing to an Arizona State team that has maintained a position in the national Top-10 rankings.

  • Current GPA: 3.99 in Communication, achieved in seven semesters
  • Named to the 2023 Pac-12 All-Conference First Team
  • Accumulated eight Top-10 finishes and 18 Top-20 finishes during her career
  • Tied for first place at the 2023 Patriot All-American Golf Tournament
  • Ranked 201st among female amateur golfers globally
  • Established a head-to-head match play record of 5-2

Significant Milestones

As the eighth recipient of this award from the Sun Devil Women’s Golf program, Summerhays highlights the program’s academic and competitive tradition. Arizona State has historically excelled in cultivating scholar-athletes, previously winning seven out of 16 awards during its tenure in the Pac-12.

Grace follows in the footsteps of Alexandra Forsterling, who last earned the honor after a remarkable performance in 2022. With a total of 47 conference scholar-athlete awards, Arizona State continues to demonstrate its commitment to academic excellence alongside athletic success.

Upcoming Competitions

The Sun Devil team, currently ranked No. 8, is set to participate in the 2025 Gold Canyon NCAA Regional from May 5-7, hosted at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club in Gold Canyon, Arizona. This event is essential in determining qualifications for the NCAA Championship scheduled for May 16-21 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.

Final Thoughts

The recognition of Grace Summerhays not only highlights her individual achievements but also reflects the overall success of the Arizona State Women’s Golf program. With a legacy of academic excellence and competitive prowess, the program continues to shape future generations of student-athletes.
