Governor Anandiben Patel Warns Young Women Against Live-In Relationships
During a recent address at the 47th convocation ceremony of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel expressed her concerns regarding live-in relationships, advising young women to exercise caution. She emphasized that such arrangements could expose them to potential exploitation.
Important Advice for Young Women
Patel urged young women to “think carefully before taking any decision” and advised them to stay away from contexts that might lead to exploitation. This warning stems from her concerns about the increasing incidents of violence against women, which she highlighted as a significant issue in society.
Encouraging Vigilance and Know-How
As the chancellor of state universities, Patel encouraged female students to remain vigilant about their surroundings and the people they trust, reinforcing the need for wise decision-making in their personal lives.
The Role of Education
In her address, Patel emphasized that education should transcend mere academic qualifications. She stated, “Education is a means to bring change in life, not merely a tool to earn certificates.” She encouraged students to embrace discipline, duty, and a sense of national pride as integral aspects of their educational journey.
Environmental Responsibility and Academic Collaboration
Patel also stressed the importance of environmental protection, organic farming, and the necessity of disaster research. She pointed out the link between natural disasters and ecological disruption, urging students to take responsibility for restoring environmental balance.
In a forward-looking gesture, she praised the university’s initiatives for inclusive education, especially for the third gender, and announced an upcoming Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Taiwan aimed at enhancing academic collaboration.
Contributions Beyond the Classroom
As part of her commitment to social welfare, Patel distributed 300 Anganwadi kits to centers in the Chandauli district and presented a commemorative souvenir along with an illustrated biography of university founder Shiv Prasad Gupta titled Jhanki.
These remarks and initiatives reflect a broader commitment to empowering young women through education and societal awareness, all while addressing pressing social issues.
