Pittsburg State Women’s Soccer Team Clinches MIAA Championship
JOPLIN, Mo. — The Pittsburg State University women’s soccer team secured a decisive victory on November 5, 2025, achieving a 2-1 triumph over Missouri Southern State University. This win solidified their status as champions of the MIAA, closing out an impressive regular season.

After a tense first half that ended in a scoreless tie, the Gorillas broke through in the second half. In the 75th minute, Mia Hunt successfully converted a penalty kick, giving Pitt State a critical lead. The penalty was awarded after teammate Ella Cazzavillan was fouled inside the 18-yard box.
Shortly thereafter, in the 80th minute, Shayla Hunt doubled their advantage with a crucial putback goal. Following a shot from Ryann Caruth, which was saved by MSSU’s goalkeeper Bella Smith, Hunt was quick to react, slotting in the rebound.
