AI by HER Global Impact Challenge: Empowering Women in AI
The Government of India has launched an innovative competition titled the “AI by HER Global Impact Challenge.” This initiative aims to elevate women-led AI projects focused on generating social benefits. Taking place in conjunction with the IndiaAI Impact Summit 2026, the challenge underscores the commitment to gender equity and inclusive innovation within the tech landscape.
Overview of the Initiative
This challenge is organized by MyGov India and is partnered with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and IndiaAI. It invites women innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs globally to submit AI-driven solutions addressing real-world problems, with an emphasis on scalability and social impact.
Competition Details and Awards
Participants will compete for a substantial cash prize of ₹25 lakh. The top ten winners will receive mentorship, networking opportunities, and sponsored participation at the IndiaAI Summit. Furthermore, the thirty finalists will present their AI solutions to policymakers and experts, aiming to highlight deployable AI tools that can effect social change through collaborative partnerships.
Eligibility Criteria
The competition is open to women-led teams or individuals across the globe. Teams can include up to three members, with a minimum of two women. The lead applicant must hold a significant leadership position such as Founder, Co-founder, CEO, CTO, or Product/Technical Lead. Eligible participants include startups, MSMEs, academic or research institutions, non-profits, and public organizations. Importantly, applicants must present pilot-ready or deployable AI solutions; concept proposals will not be accepted. Those currently employed must provide a No-Objection Certificate from their employers.
Categories for Submission
Entries are welcome in six distinct categories, including:
- Agriculture: Innovations in precision farming, pest control, and resource optimization.
- Cybersecurity and Digital Wellbeing: Solutions focusing on privacy, trust, and online safety.
- Education: Projects aimed at enhancing accessible and multilingual learning models.
- Healthcare: AI tools for diagnostic support, telemedicine, and data predictions.
- Energy and Climate: Initiatives related to clean energy and emissions monitoring.
- Wildcard/Open Innovation: Cross-sector AI solutions that may not fit into traditional categories.
Submission Process and Timeline
The application process is expected to commence in October 2025 via the official MyGov portal. The evaluation period will span from October to November 2025, followed by bootcamp sessions and presentations from November to December 2025. The winners will be announced at the IndiaAI Impact Summit in February 2026.
