Exploring the Impact of Money in Politics: An Event by the League of Women Voters

San Diego County League of Women Voters Day: 'Money in Politics'
San Diego County League of Women Voters Day: ‘Money in Politics’

Join the League of Women Voters of North County San Diego for an insightful event titled “Money in Politics.” Scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025, from 10 AM to 12 PM at the Carmel Valley Library, this event aims to shed light on how monetary influences shape local governance.

Panel Discussion

The newly crafted panel consists of three distinguished experts:

  • Brian Adams: Professor in the Political Science Department at San Diego State University, he is the author of “Campaign Finance in Local Elections: Buying the Grassroots.” His work critically examines the effects of campaign finance on the democratic nature of local elections.
  • Lucas Robinson: An investigative reporter at the San Diego Union-Tribune, he will discuss recent findings regarding SANDAG’s challenges with no-bid contracting.
  • David Edward Burke: Founder of Citizens Take Action, David advocates for enhanced political representation at the grassroots level. His extensive experience spans legal work in Congress and various nonprofit initiatives.

The event will be interactive, concluding with a Q&A session where attendees can engage with the panelists. Light refreshments will be provided.
