Celebrating Queer Love: Netflix and Frameline Host Special Screening
San Francisco’s Castro district came alive with excitement as Netflix and Frameline joined forces for a unique Pride Month event celebrating the release of The Ultimatum: Queer Love Season 2.
Event Overview
The screening took place at Rikki’s, San Francisco’s inaugural women’s sports bar, offering an inclusive environment for the queer community. Attendees enjoyed complimentary snacks and engaging surprises that complemented the reality show’s reputation for bold romance and drama.
A Special Guest Appearance
Highlighting the evening was the surprise appearance of Lexi Goldberg from Season 1 of The Ultimatum: Queer Love, who extended her support to the new cast and the vibrant local queer community.
Community Voices at Rikki’s
“We are a women’s sports bar, and queer women cannot be disconnected from women’s sports,” said Danielle Thoe, co-owner of Rikki’s. “To see queer, female, and non-binary representation in mainstream media—especially through the lens of reality TV—is significant for acceptance and inclusion.”
Thoe co-founded Rikki’s with Sara Yergovich, her former teammate from the San Francisco Spikes LGBTQ+ soccer team. “We wanted a space where we could reliably watch women’s sports,” Yergovich explained. “Realizing no one else would do it, we took action to create it ourselves.”
Pride Month Significance
This screening marked an important milestone as it took place just weeks after the bar’s grand opening in celebration of Pride Month. “Hosting this event during Pride Week with Frameline allows us to connect more deeply with the community,” Yergovich added.
Viewers React to Reality Drama
Guests arrived in cocktail attire, eager to watch the new season unfold. “Drama,” said attendees Shelby and Alice in unison. “I only really believe that two couples are genuine,” Shelby chuckled. Another guest noted, “Having to issue an ultimatum seems like a tough situation; perhaps it’s necessary for them to break up.”
Insights and Dating Advice
When invited to share dating wisdom, Yergovich succinctly stated, “Show up and keep showing up.” Another attendee shared her own relationship journey: “I met my girlfriend through a queer dodgeball league. It’s been a beautiful experience.”
A Celebration of Queer Representation
With a bustling crowd at Rikki’s, the event went beyond a simple premiere; it was a lively celebration of queer visibility, local enterprises, and chosen families. Thoe summed up the night by saying, “It’s been a packed night full of all the drama and love you’d expect from The Ultimatum. It’s been great fun.”
