Florida Gators Athletes Shine in SEC Weekly Awards
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – In recognition of their outstanding performances during the women’s season opener at Indiana, Florida Gators athletes Lainy Kruger and Maria Garcia have received accolades from the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as part of this week’s awards.
SEC Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Lainy Kruger
Lainy Kruger, a junior hailing from Taylor Mill, Kentucky, was named SEC Co-Women’s Swimmer of the Week. Kruger’s remarkable contributions included a total of 18 points, achieved through three first-place finishes in her events:
- 200-yard freestyle: 1:48.37
- 200-yard butterfly: 1:59.44
- 400-yard freestyle relay (anchored): 49.45 split, contributing to a team time of 3:23.90
SEC Women’s Diver of the Week: Maria Garcia
Maria Garcia, a freshman from Nuevo Leon, Mexico, celebrated a successful collegiate debut, securing the title of SEC Women’s Diver of the Week. In her first competition, she achieved notable performances:
- 1st place on the 3-meter board with a personal best of 308.48 points
- 2nd place on the 1-meter board, registering a career-best score of 254.78

Diving events will follow at 12:30 PM ET, with a second swimming session starting at 4:00 PM ET to conclude the meet.
