Honoring a Young Pilot’s Legacy with “Take Flight” Beer
WAUNAKEE (WKOW) — In a heartfelt tribute, the Lone Girl Brewery in Waunakee launched their latest beer, “Take Flight,” on Saturday. This special brew commemorates Remington Viney, a young aviator who tragically lost her life in a plane crash in 2021.
A Fundraiser with a Purpose
The event, along with the beer’s release, aims to raise funds for the Remington Viney Legacy Fund established by her family. This fund is dedicated to promoting the empowerment and advancement of women in the aviation industry.
Encouraging Women in Aviation
Sarah Pozdell, President of the Four Lakes Chapter of Women in Aviation International, emphasized the significance of representing women in this field. “Women make up less than 7% of pilots and an even smaller percentage in other aviation roles. It’s essential for women and girls to see individuals like themselves succeeding as pilots, mechanics, and air traffic controllers, allowing them to envision a path in aviation,” she stated.
Remembering Remington Viney
Kevin Viney, Remington’s father, described her as a passionate individual. An avid soccer player at Sun Prairie High School, she pursued a degree in marketing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, ultimately identifying her love for flying at an early age.
“She began taking flying lessons, worked at a local airport to gain experience, and ultimately joined the military to kickstart her career,” recalled Kevin Viney.
A Supportive Spirit
Remington’s mother, Tia Scanlon, reflected on her daughter’s commitment to uplifting other women. “If she were still with us, she would be making significant strides for women in aviation. Supporting others was her mantra, and she was on the verge of becoming a professional pilot when she died. We are dedicated to providing the mentorship, funding, and opportunities that Remington would have championed,” Tia said.
