Savannah native Flau’jae Johnson, a senior guard at Louisiana State University (LSU), has earned the distinction of being selected for the 2025 USA Basketball Women’s AmeriCup Team. This prestigious announcement took place on Thursday, highlighting her place among an elite group of collegiate athletes aiming to represent the United States in Santiago, Chile later this month.
The USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee announced a roster of 12 members. The team is set to compete in the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup, which will run from June 28 to July 6. Johnson and her teammates will face off against Group B adversaries, which include Chile, Colombia, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.
Johnson’s involvement in the AmeriCup marks her competitive debut with USA Basketball, joining fellow newcomers Raegan Beers (Oklahoma), Audi Crooks (Iowa State), Gianna Kneepkens (UCLA), and Hannah Stuelke (Iowa). The roster also features several players with prior international experience, such as Madison Booker (Texas), Joyce Edwards (South Carolina), and Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), all of whom have previously captured gold medals.
As a standout athlete, Johnson is projected to be a potential lottery pick in the 2026 WNBA Draft. However, she has opted to further her collegiate career instead of declaring for the draft this spring. Last season, she achieved a remarkable average of 19 points per game, playing a pivotal role in leading LSU to its national championship victory in 2023. Furthermore, she chose to remain with her team rather than enter the transfer portal.
The leadership of the AmeriCup team will be under the guidance of Duke head coach Kara Lawson, who is not only a 2008 Olympic gold medalist but also brings extensive experience coaching for Team USA.
With the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup approaching, fans and supporters can look forward to an exciting showcase of talent and skill from June 28 to July 6 in Santiago, Chile.
