This summer, women’s sports are gearing up for unprecedented exposure, highlighted by several major events that promise excitement and athleticism.

Scheduled events include the Women’s Euros, the Women’s Rugby World Cup, and the World Athletics Championships, all broadcast live on the BBC. These competitions will be complemented by Wimbledon and The Hundred cricket tournament, where women will compete at Queen’s for the first time in over half a century.

In anticipation of this significant sporting season, BBC Sport has launched the ‘Names Will Be Made’ campaign, aimed at elevating the profiles of female athletes by sharing their inspiring stories of perseverance and success. Alex Kay-Jelski, the director of BBC Sport, emphasized this initiative, stating, “The BBC has a strong legacy in championing women’s sport and telling their stories to audiences. No sidelines. No second billing. This summer is packed with top-tier women’s competitions.”

Noteworthy Sporting Events to Watch in 2025

Here are essential events to mark on your calendar:

  • Queen’s (June 9-15): This prestigious tennis tournament at Queen’s Club in London will feature women athletes competing for the first time in 50 years, kicking off the summer badminton schedule.
  • Women’s Euros (July 2-27): Attention will be on England’s Lionesses as they defend their championship title in Switzerland. Wales will also make its debut in this major tournament.
  • The Hundred (August 5-31): Featuring multiple double headers, this cricket competition will showcase both women’s and men’s teams, culminating in highly anticipated matches.
  • Women’s Rugby World Cup (August 22 – September 27): With all home nations participating, England’s Red Roses will aim for victory in front of their local supporters after winning the Women’s Six Nations.
  • World Athletics Championships (September 13-21): Tokyo will host the world’s best female athletes in an athletic showcase involving a range of track and field events, all accessible via BBC live coverage.

This summer’s events promise to spotlight remarkable achievements in women’s sports, making it a season not to be missed.
