Erika Tymrak: A Legacy in Women’s Soccer
Beginning and Flourishing in Professional Soccer
Erika Tymrak’s professional journey in soccer commenced with a pivotal role at FC Kansas City, a team established during the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in 2013. Her impressive debut earned her the first Rookie of the Year title, subsequently contributing to the team’s consecutive league championships in the following years.
“We were the trailblazers in professional soccer,” Tymrak recalled, highlighting the significance of her contributions to the sport.
Return to Roots and Final Season
After a successful run, Tymrak announced her retirement from professional soccer following the inaugural season of the USL Super League’s Tampa Bay Sun. She expressed her desire to leave the game in a better state than she found it, a testament to her commitment to the sport.
“I just hope I’ve left the game better than I found it,” she stated, reflecting on her enduring impact.
Remarkable Achievements
Originating from Bradenton, Florida, Tymrak excelled as a three-time MVP at IMG Academy and was a member of the under-17 national team. Her collegiate success at the University of Florida included becoming the first Gator to win the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award in 2012.
Her professional path also took her to international clubs, including Bayern Munich and Melbourne City, before returning her to her roots with the Sun, where she was among the first players signed.
“I feel really grateful for my entire soccer career and the journey and how it led me back to Tampa Bay,” she shared, acknowledging her numerous accomplishments.
Giving Back to the Community
A significant aspect of Tymrak’s journey extends beyond the field. In March, she participated in a charity event alongside notable Tampa Bay athletes. The competition, organized by Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield, aimed to support local charities, and Tymrak earned second place, securing $20,000 for the Tampa Bay Humane Society.
Looking Forward
As she transitions to the next stage of her life, Tymrak is focused on the Tampa Bay Sun’s playoff ambitions, having already secured a spot in the inaugural playoffs. The team’s last home regular-season game will honor her contributions to the sport.
“I have some things in the works,” she hinted about her future plans, while primarily focusing on the remaining challenges of the season.
