Empowering Women Through Self-Defense
COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – A well-established martial arts school in College Station is set to host its second women’s only self-defense seminar of 2025.
Brazos Valley MMA & Fitness: A Community Staple
Having served the community for over 20 years, Brazos Valley MMA & Fitness emphasizes that women and girls can gain valuable self-defense techniques from this educational experience.
What to Expect from the Seminar
Dmitri Westbrook, the program director and coach, shared insights on the seminar. “We’ll demonstrate how to escape different kinds of holds and what to do if you find yourself on the ground. Our focus will be on practical scenarios that enable participants to reach safety and equip them with techniques they can rely on in challenging situations,” he explained.
Voices of Experience
Lucia Carbo, a teacher at Branch Elementary, expressed her motivations for participating. “The class was a mix of learning and enjoyment. It’s crucial to remain prepared at all times because you never know what might happen,” Carbo stated.
Fellow educator Leslie Inami noted her aim to build confidence through the seminar. “I wanted to develop a sense of assurance for any situation that may arise. As teachers, it’s essential for us to be ready for any challenges we might encounter,” she added.
