KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A notable addition to Kansas City’s sports scene is set to debut in The Crossroads next week: a pioneering sports bar dedicated to women’s athletics called The Dub. Located at the intersection of 9th and Baltimore, this venue will open its doors at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 16.

Co-owned by Monica Brady, The Dub aims to create an engaging environment reminiscent of traditional sports bars but focuses primarily on broadcasting women’s sports events. “We have been through the ups and downs of opening a small business, but all the people that have helped us through it, the community that has rallied around us to get us to this point, and just the fans that are so ready for us to open — we’re just so ready to open our doors and welcome them in,” said Brady.

The establishment prominently features memorabilia from the Kansas City Current, a local women’s soccer team, ensuring that all Current games will be showcased at The Dub. This initiative reflects a growing movement nationwide to infuse sports bars with a more inclusive representation of female athletics.

While The Dub aims to become a key venue for women’s sports, it welcomes all sports enthusiasts, hoping to broaden their exposure to new teams and athletes.

Brady emphasized that, while the primary focus is on women’s sports, The Dub invites fans of all sports backgrounds, aiming to introduce a wider audience to female athletes and their accomplishments. “You’ll be able to get a good cocktail, a good glass of wine, a freshly made sandwich, salad, appetizers, really tasty foods and drinks while you build your community, watch women’s sports, and celebrate those athletes that deserve our eyes on their games,” she added.

The Dub is set to launch at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2023.

Anticipating a shift in the local sports culture, Brady believes The Dub may inspire the establishment of similar venues across the city and beyond, further emphasizing the importance of women’s representation in the sports industry.
