Empowering Women in Skilled Trades
PHOENIX — In honor of Women’s History Month, the National Technical Institute (NTI) is inviting women to consider exciting career opportunities in high-demand skilled trades such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
Growing Female Workforce in Trades
Over the past five years, the number of women working in skilled trades has seen a significant increase, growing by nearly one-third. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the number reached a historic high of 314,000 women in 2021.
Room for Improvement
Despite this growth, there is still much work to be done. While women comprise nearly half of the workforce in the United States, as of 2023, they represented only 11% of the construction sector and under 5% in hands-on skilled trade positions.
Join Us for a Free Open House
To support and inspire more women to enter these fields, NTI will be hosting a free open house at its Phoenix campus on Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This event offers attendees the chance to gain firsthand experience and discover if a career in skilled trades is the right fit for them.
Hands-on Workshops
Participants can choose from three engaging training lab workshops:
- Electrical: Learn to change a residential dual receptacle and wire according to code.
- Plumbing: Discover how to properly flush and refill a hot water tank.
- HVAC: Master the skills of washing coils and changing filters on an air conditioning condensing unit.
