9th Annual View Lady Classic Raises Funds for Domestic Assault Awareness

Event Overview

On August 3, 2023, the Metamora Golf & Country Club played host to the 9th Annual View Lady Classic, an event designed to raise funds for Lapeer Area Citizens Against Domestic Assault (LACADA). This year, 39 teams participated in the fundraiser presented by McLaren Lapeer Region and organized by the View Newspaper Group.

Fundraising Success

Since its inception, the View Lady Classic has successfully generated over $137,000 for LACADA, a local nonprofit that has been providing crucial support services, such as crisis intervention and emergency shelter, since 1991.

New Features This Year

This year introduced a unique opportunity for participants to “Bring Your Own Caddie” (B.Y.O.C.) for a donation of $500 to LACADA. Notable caddies included Bill Gibbon, Dave Bush, and Adam Atkinson.

Remarks from Organizers

Tracey Walker, the Executive Director of LACADA, expressed gratitude towards the golfers, saying, “Thank you for coming out today. We appreciate your support.” She acknowledged the View Newspaper Group’s dedication to supporting LACADA over the years, highlighting that proceeds would assist in operations, including the construction of a new parking lot.

Community Participation and Atmosphere

The event is characterized by its spirited atmosphere, where teams often dress in costumes and theme their golf carts. This year saw engaging activities including a celebrity caddie auction, where local notables such as Mark Bourassa and John “JP” Payne participated.

Celebrity Caddies and Auction

The auction, led by auctioneer Brian Rowley, drew attention as celebrity caddies attracted lively bids. The funds raised from this auction contribute significantly to LACADA’s initiatives.

Event Highlights

  • Celebrity caddies included Wes Smith and Rick Fleming.
  • Raffles offered exciting prizes, including a Booze Cooler sponsored by Bryan’s Supermarket.

Community Support and Sponsorship

The event boasts numerous sponsors, including Tri County Equipment and ChoiceOne Bank, who collectively contribute to the success of this noble endeavor.
