Celebrating Empowerment at the 17th Annual Pinky Returns Golf Tournament
On July 21, the scenic Kings Creek Country Club hosted the 17th annual Pinky Returns golf tournament, bringing together more than 150 participants, all united in support of the Julie Dickson Foundation’s mission to empower women.
About the Julie Dickson Foundation
The foundation was founded in honor of Julie Dickson, a passionate advocate for women’s rights, young athletes, and small business owners. An accomplished athlete herself, Dickson made significant contributions as an educator, coach, and entrepreneur. Her notable achievements include coaching various sports such as field hockey, basketball, track, tennis, and lacrosse, with her career at Brown University standing out. Additionally, she played a key role in establishing the U.S. Field Hockey Federation and successfully built a State Farm Agency from the ground up. Her public service experience includes serving as a city councilwoman in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Impact Through Scholarships
The foundation is not only a tribute to Dickson’s legacy but also a source of financial support, having awarded $38,000 in scholarships to talented young women at Delaware Technical Community College and funding to the Strive Foundation.
Success Stories and Life Changes
At the tournament, Dr. Bobbi Barends, the vice president and campus director of Delaware Tech, shared inspiring stories illustrating the transformative impact of the foundation’s scholarships on young women’s lives. Last year, three scholarships were awarded, and one recipient became the first in her family to graduate from college without debt, thanks in part to the Pinky Returns initiative.
The event effectively fosters a sense of community and highlights the importance of supporting women throughout their educational journeys.
