A training seminar aimed at women who have returned from labor migration took place in the Tashkent region, designed to enhance their economic prospects. This initiative received support from the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan and was organized in conjunction with the Committee of Family and Women, the Committee on Tourism under the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change, as well as the Tashkent Regional Administration.
Approximately 100 individuals participated in the seminar, including women returnees, officials from various government sectors, industry experts, and media representatives. The event provided attendees with both theoretical insights and practical skills, focusing on the tourism and hospitality sectors while also highlighting business development opportunities.
“Women returning from labor migration bring with them not only valuable skills and experience but also the determination to contribute to the development of their communities. Unlocking this potential is key to inclusive economic growth,” stated Ambassador Antti Karttunen, the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan.
This seminar was part of an OSCE extrabudgetary initiative titled “Promoting Effective Female Labour Migration Governance and Economic Empowerment of Women Returnees,” which is funded by Germany, Norway, Türkiye, and the Republic of Korea. The objective of the project is to empower returnee women economically and foster their reintegration into local economies.
