Celebrating Women’s Empowerment on International Women’s Day
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 8 (ANI): On International Women’s Day, Elina Mishra, a nuclear scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, shared her inspiring journey on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media platform, ‘X’. She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to highlight the growing role of women in vital fields such as space and nuclear science, urging young women to pursue careers in science and technology.
In her video message on X, Mishra remarked, “This year is especially significant because we rarely get such an opportunity to reach out to the public through the Prime Minister’s platform. I am truly grateful for this chance.” Originally from Bhubaneswar in Odisha, she cited her father, a Physics professor, as her primary inspiration, emphasizing how his passionate commitment to research motivated her own career in science.
“Coming from a place like Bhubaneswar, where education is highly valued, I’ve always been inspired by my father’s relentless dedication to research, which led me to the field of science,” Mishra shared. “I encourage young women to enter the science and technology sector, as their contributions are crucial for our future.”
Ajaita Shah’s Impact in Rural Empowerment
Today, Ajaita Shah, Founder and CEO of Frontier Markets, also expressed her thanks to Prime Minister Modi for acknowledging her and other women for their contributions to women’s empowerment. Shah had the privilege of taking over PM Modi’s social media accounts, where she discussed the transformational effect of government policies on rural livelihoods.
Shah stated, “I have been committed to women’s development in thousands of villages for the past 20 years. It is due to the vision of Prime Minister Modi that women like us are being recognized.” Her initiative has empowered over 35,000 digitally-enabled women entrepreneurs, promoting self-reliance and creating vibrant rural economies.
“The government’s policies on rural livelihoods have enabled millions of women to become financially stable. I am grateful that PM Modi has acknowledged our efforts, allowing us to make a meaningful impact,” Shah added.

Demonstrating a strong commitment to women’s empowerment, PM Modi entrusted his social media platforms to six remarkable women on International Women’s Day. This empowering initiative allowed them to share their extraordinary stories, achievements, and the challenges they have faced. The selected women hail from diverse regions across India: Vaishali Rameshbabu (Chennai, Tamil Nadu), Dr. Anjlee Agarwal (Delhi), Anita Devi (Nalanda, Bihar), Elina Mishra (Bhubaneswar, Odisha), Ajaita Shah (Rajasthan), and Shilpi Soni (Sagar, Madhya Pradesh).
Trailblazers in Various Fields
While four women shared their experiences independently, Elina Mishra and Shilpi Soni presented their journeys together, showcasing the contributions of women across various sectors, including sports, rural entrepreneurship, science, and technology.
Among the featured women, Vaishali Rameshbabu has been a chess prodigy since the age of six, earning the title of Chess Grandmaster in 2023. Anita Devi, known as the “Mushroom Lady of Bihar,” founded the Madhopur Farmers Producers Company, creating job opportunities for rural women through mushroom cultivation. Elina Mishra and Shilpi Soni are recognized for their significant roles in scientific research.
Finally, Dr. Anjlee Agarwal leads the Samarthyam Centre for Universal Accessibility, advocating for inclusive mobility and barrier-free infrastructure for people with disabilities, making public spaces across India more accessible.
