On March 19, 2025, the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, in collaboration with Elevate Trust, will launch the Women in Science, Technology, and Innovation (WiSTI) Conference. This event aims to empower women and girls to thrive in science and technology careers.

The WiSTI Conference will take place from March 19 to 21 at the Harare International Conference Centre, under the inspiring theme: “Accelerate Action: Women Driving Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development.”
Empowering Women in STEM
Tagwira emphasized that the primary goal is to enhance the participation of women in science and technology, fostering innovative talent and encouraging collaboration among female professionals, academia, industry leaders, and policymakers.
Inspiring Future Generations
The conference seeks to motivate younger generations, especially young women and girls, to consider careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). “Women play a vital role in fostering innovation and driving sustainable development. Their contributions can significantly uplift communities, industries, and nations,” Tagwira stated. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring that Zimbabwe’s development is inclusive, allowing women to excel in all domains, particularly in traditionally male-dominated fields.

The WiSTI Conference is aligned with Zimbabwe’s commitment to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on SDGs 4 and 5, which emphasize the importance of quality education and gender equality.
