Evolving Role of Women in Science: Celebrating International Women’s Day
In honor of International Women’s Day, a special program titled “Evolving Role of Women in Science” is set to take place on Saturday at the seminar hall of the Priyadarsini Planetarium, located within the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM) in PMG.
Distinguished Guest and Organizers
The event will feature renowned theoretical physicist and Padma Bhushan awardee, Ashoke Sen, as the distinguished guest. This insightful gathering is organized by the Gender in Physics Working Group of the Indian Physics Association (IPA) in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) and the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), both based in Thiruvananthapuram. Additionally, KSSTM and the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the Breakthrough Science Society are supporting this initiative.
Engaging Talks on Gender Equity
The program will include thought-provoking discussions focusing on various aspects of gender equity in science. Shikha Varma will present on “Towards Achieving Gender Equity: Activities of the Gender in Physics Working Groups of IPA,” while Ankush Banerjee will offer insights with his talk, “Understanding Gender: Perspectives from Contemporary Socio-Cultural Milieu.”
Panel Discussion on Women’s Challenges in Academia
A panel discussion, moderated by Hema Somanathan, will delve into the “Challenges and Opportunities for Women in Research and Academia Today.” This discussion aims to illuminate the current landscape women face in scientific research and academia while exploring pathways for advancement and inclusivity.
