Empowering Women in Emerging Technologies
The European Union Delegation to the UAE recently hosted the third installment of its Career Talks series at Khalifa University, focusing on the pivotal theme of Women in Emerging Technologies. This event followed previous successful discussions on Women in Engineering and Women in Defence and aimed to inspire and guide aspiring female professionals in the fields of technology and science.
A Platform for Female Leaders
In collaboration with Khalifa University, the EU Delegation organized a motivational career talk that gathered influential female leaders from both the European Union and the UAE. The event emphasized the importance of women’s contributions to advancing fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, health technology, and biotechnology, fostering a supportive environment for the next generation of female innovators.
Opening Remarks from Distinguished Guests
The event commenced with insightful remarks from Her Excellency Lucie Berger, the EU Ambassador to the UAE, and His Excellency Ray Johnson, Senior Advisor to the President of Khalifa University. They highlighted the essential role that women play in driving technological advancements and welcomed a distinguished panel of female leaders, including:
- Her Excellency Dr. Mariam Matar, a pioneer in Genomics & Biotech
- Dr. Kinda Khalaf, an expert in Robotics & HealthTech
- Dr. Giulia de Masi, a Senior Expert in Robotics & AI
- Dr. Maria de Fatima Domingues, an innovator in HealthTech & Biomedical Engineering
- Miss Ferial Abuhantash, a Bio-engineering PhD candidate serving as the moderator
The panelists shared their inspiring stories, career milestones, and valuable advice with the students of Khalifa University, encouraging them to pursue their aspirations in these dynamic fields.
Championing Women in STEM
Ambassador Lucie Berger remarked on the initiative, stating, “An increasing number of women are pursuing careers in STEM, contributing to innovation, sustainability, and progress. The EU takes pride in organizing this Career Talk series as a unique platform for exchange between European and Emirati female leaders in traditionally male-dominated sectors. Together, these role models inspire young women to shatter barriers and chase their dreams.”
She further encouraged the students, asserting, “The inspiring experiences shared by our remarkable panelists serve as a reminder that the future is not only shaped for women but is being actively crafted by women.”

This event marks the third in the EU Delegation’s Career Talks series, building on the success of previous discussions on Women in Engineering and Women in Defence, which were organized in partnership with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. The Career Talks initiative showcases the EU’s steadfast dedication to promoting international collaboration in gender equality and the empowerment of women.
