Celebrating Women Empowerment at RMC Guwahati
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) in Guwahati recently held an empowering five-day event in honor of International Women’s Day 2025. This celebration focused on health, fitness, and the advancement of women in the field of science.
Inauguration and Vision for Change
The festivities began on March 3, led by K.N. Mohan, Head of RMC Guwahati, who highlighted the urgent need to boost female representation in scientific roles. Dr. Sanjay O’Neill Shaw, a Scientist-F, lauded the strength of women who successfully juggle various responsibilities while achieving excellence across multiple domains. Additionally, Scientist-F Sunit Das urged parents to mentor their daughters in exploring careers in science.
A Flourishing Celebration
The event, impeccably hosted by Scientific Assistant Anamika Sarma, brimmed with engaging activities. Noteworthy highlights included the ‘Fit India Pledge’ to promote healthy living, along with a Walkathon and Cycle Rally aimed at enhancing fitness levels. Attendees participated in Yoga, Meditation, Zumba, and Aerobics sessions, all contributing to mental and physical well-being. Special lectures were also organized covering essential topics such as women’s health, nutrition, and mental wellness.
Insightful Discussions on Women’s Health
On March 6, two prominent talks took center stage. Dr. Mythili Hazarika, Head of Clinical Psychology at GMCH, spoke about the pitfalls of excessive multitasking in today’s fast-paced world, emphasizing the importance of achieving mental equilibrium. Furthermore, Dr. Manisha Choudhury, Assistant Professor at Assam Agricultural University, stressed the significance of a nutrient-rich diet in maintaining overall health.

Dr. Gayatry Kalita, Scientist-D, played a pivotal role in orchestrating various activities throughout the event. The success was also due to the unwavering dedication of officials such as Reeta Brahma Gayary, Doli Haloi, Chinmoyee Gogoi, Sayani Hossain, Sandipa Bhattacharya, Neha Tomar, Anjali Singh Chaudhary, Madhushree Bairagi, Pranita Koch, and Rumi Baruah, whose combined efforts ensured a memorable experience.
