Empowering Women Through Entrepreneurship: The 2025 International Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium
The Ozmen Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Nevada, Reno’s College of Business proudly hosted the 2025 International Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium (IWES), led by Teaching Associate Professor Armina Karapetian. This annual event, celebrated around International Women’s Day, serves as a platform for women leaders to share their experiences and insights in leadership, business, and entrepreneurship with faculty, students, staff, and members of the entrepreneurial community. Its mission is to inspire and empower women leaders throughout Northern Nevada.
Reflecting on her experience, Karapetian stated, “I have had the privilege of leading the International Women’s Entrepreneurship Symposium over the last three years, and it has been nothing short of amazing. Every new conversation and collaboration reaffirm just how powerfully women can shape crucial dialogues and develop real-world solutions.” This sentiment underscores the impact of women uniting to foster change.
In previous editions, the Ozmen Center has showcased a diverse array of remarkable women, including CEOs, marketing professionals, and nonprofit leaders, all sharing their journeys and insights with IWES participants.
Inspiring Keynote Address by Emily Jaenson
This year, College of Business Dean Gregory Mosier introduced keynote speaker Emily Jaenson, who captivated the audience with her transformative story. Jaenson recounted her evolution from a shy individual, hesitant even to place a pizza order, to a thriving keynote speaker, published author, and leadership and confidence coach.
Attendees were gifted a complimentary copy of her book “Let’s Go” and engaged with a worksheet designed to facilitate reflections on enhancing confidence, leadership skills, and personal health management.
Karapetian expressed her joy in the symposium’s growth, saying, “It has been a personal joy to witness IWES reach more people with each passing year. Every time new participants join and share their stories, I am reminded that when we come together, we can spark positive change in our community and around the globe.”
Endorsement from the Ozmen Center Leadership
Mehmet Tosun, director of the Ozmen Center for Entrepreneurship, echoed this enthusiasm, emphasizing the program’s significance. “The IWES program has become an integral part of our Ozmen Center activities. I congratulate Armina Karapetian and all the organizers and participants of this year’s event. It is truly gratifying to see such a high level of interest,” shared Tosun.
Staff Reflections on IWES
The passion for the event extends to the staff involved. Administrative Assistant Ashley Melendez shared her personal connection to IWES, stating, “IWES is one of my favorite events to work on because I leave feeling inspired in my goals as a leader, a woman entrepreneur, and a musician. Thank you to the College of Business leaders and administrative staff for making IWES both uplifting and enjoyable.”
