Mark your calendars for March 8, 2025, as we come together to honor International Women’s Day with the theme “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
This year, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, we transition from commitment to action, focusing on unlocking equal rights, power, and opportunities for every woman and girl. Our aspiration is to build a feminist future where no individual is overlooked. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation—youth, with a special emphasis on young women and adolescent girls—as catalysts for enduring change.
This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a significant milestone established in 1995 during a transformative period. This anniversary is an ideal time to celebrate our achievements, recognize ongoing and emerging challenges, demand accountability, and, most critically, renew our pledge to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Yet, the global landscape remains starkly unequal. International Women’s Day offers a renewed opportunity to rise, call for action, and advocate for the full implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action to forge a more equitable world for all women and girls.
This International Women’s Day, unite with UN Women as we march forward for women’s rights. We cannot afford to take a step back.

In Pursuit of Progress, There is Hope
For 89% of governments, ending violence against women stands as a pressing priority today, with 193 nations having enacted legal measures against it. Countries that have implemented domestic violence laws are witnessing a decrease in incidents of violence against women.
Globally, we have achieved gender parity in education. By closing the gender gap in access to and influence over science and technology, we can break the remaining barriers to equal opportunities and create technologies that serve all people and the planet.
More governments are enhancing care services, with 32% promoting improved pay and safe working conditions for care workers. Furthermore, 112 countries now have national plans to involve women in peace and security processes, a significant rise from just 19 countries in 2010.
