Celebrating Strength: Highlights from Pink Power Night at Trinity Health System
STEUBENVILLE — Attendees donned pink attire, embodying a spirit of unity and resilience at the St. Florian Event Center as they came together to honor women and breast cancer survivors at the annual Pink Power Night hosted by Trinity Health System.
Community and Compassion in Action
The event focused on empowering women through health education and sharing stories of survival and hope. Laurie Labishak, the market director for marketing and communications at Trinity, expressed, “At Trinity Health System, we believe in the power of community and compassionate care. Pink Power Night is the perfect embodiment of our vision for a healthier future for all — one powered by our humanity.”
Health Education and Resources
Various informational booths were set up to educate participants on breast health. Kayla Beaver, a patient navigator and mammographer at Trinity, highlighted the significance of regular screenings, advocating for annual checkups for women over 40 and monthly self-exams.
“We do our best to make this process as smooth and as comfortable as possible,” Beaver stated, emphasizing that awareness and proactive measures can be life-saving tools in the fight against breast cancer.
Attendees were also introduced to the nonprofit Knitted Knockers, which offers free prosthetics for women who find traditional options uncomfortable.
A Celebration of Survivors
Among the attendees was Malanye Wares, who shared a personal connection to breast cancer through her family. Wares expressed her awe at the many survivors present, noting the importance of community support for those affected by the disease.
The evening featured a welcome address by Labishak, who encouraged feedback from guests about hosting similar events in the future. The strong response affirmed a communal desire for ongoing support and awareness initiatives.
A Message of Empowerment
The event also included an inspiring keynote speech by Delores Pressley, a motivational speaker known for her empowering messages about resilience. Pressley, who has appeared on multiple prominent platforms, captivated the audience with her personal stories of overcoming adversity.
“You have to uncross your mental arms,” Pressley advised, sharing her journey from aspiring ballerina to becoming a beacon of hope for others. Her message resonated deeply with the crowd, encouraging individuals to push past their limitations and pursue their dreams.
Future Initiatives
The event concluded with a wreath ceremony and a proclamation from local officials, reinforcing the community’s commitment to breast cancer awareness and prevention. Participants were invited to join ongoing efforts in support of health, prevention, and awareness through organizations such as the Women in Action Against Cancer Coalition.
Pink Power Night served as a powerful reminder of the strength found in community and the importance of vigilance in health. As expressed by Labishak, the hope is that the inspiring messages shared will continue to ripple through the community long after the event’s conclusion.
