Empowering Women Through Fitness: The Launch of Divine Feminine Fitness in Denver
A New Chapter in Women’s Fitness
In a bid to create a supportive and comfortable fitness environment, Carissa Gomez and Alex French have co-founded Divine Feminine Fitness in Denver. The women-only gym is designed specifically to empower women who often feel out of place in traditional co-ed gym settings.
From Concept to Reality
The journey began for Gomez and French when they met as personal trainers at a women’s gym in Kansas City. Their shared vision solidified during a lunch discussion in May, prompting them to relocate to Denver. Within days, they found a gym space that was previously Kali Fitness, which they later purchased.
By July, the duo was hard at work renovating the facility, aiming to transform it into a space tailored to the unique physical and psychological needs of women.
Creating a Comfortable Environment
Addressing the barriers women face in conventional gyms, Gomez and French have established a space that fosters comfort and community. They note that women often exhibit increased confidence and calmness when surrounded exclusively by other women.
“We both came from co-ed gyms,” Gomez explained. “We recognized numerous factors that made it difficult for women to feel at ease.”
Gym Features Designed for Women
Recognizing that many commercial machines are designed with average male dimensions in mind, the co-owners selected equipment suitable for a wider range of heights and body types. French noted, “There’s a lot of equipment that actually doesn’t fit the majority of women’s bodies.”
The programming at Divine Feminine Fitness also caters to women’s physiological needs, incorporating research on hormonal changes and metabolic differences. French elaborated, saying, “For women, our bodies require so much more work and deference.”
Member Experiences
Initial feedback from members highlights the gym’s positive impact. Kylie Gray, who struggles with gym anxiety, discovered Divine Feminine Fitness online and quickly felt the difference. “I suffer from a lot of gym anxiety,” she said, explaining her previous intimidation with gym equipment. After participating in classes and personal training, Gray noted that her confidence has surged, allowing her to set and achieve fitness goals.
A Lasting Impact
As Gomez and French reflect on their journey, they acknowledge the extensive effort that went into launching their gym. “We’ve put blood, sweat, and tears into this place,” French remarked, emphasizing the rewards of seeing women thrive in such an empowering environment.
Gomez expressed hope that their initiative might inspire a broader movement: “If we affect one person, they can affect somebody else. And it just continues.”
