Empowering Girls and Women through Sports: Tibu Africa’s National Forum
Event Overview
The NGO Tibu Africa is set to host its third National Forum focused on the empowerment of girls and women through sports. Scheduled for October 10, this event aligns with National Women’s Day and follows on the heels of the International Day of the Girl Child, occurring on October 11. The forum will take place at the Second Chance School – New Generation, known for training professionals in sports, located in the heart of Casablanca’s Old Medina.
Goals and Support
Underpinned by support from UNESCO, the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports (MENPS), and the National Initiative for Human Development (INDH), the forum aims to leverage sports as a catalyst for empowerment, socio-economic inclusion, and leadership development.
Over 300 young women from Tibu Africa’s programs, along with women leaders, elite athletes, and representatives from various institutions, are expected to gather for this significant occasion.
Statements from Leaders
Mohamed Amine Zariat, the president-founder of Tibu Africa and an Ashoka Fellow, stressed the importance of investing in girls: “Investing in a girl is investing in the future of a nation.” He added, “Through sports, we have empowered thousands of young girls with our programs focused on education, socio-economic inclusion, and entrepreneurship. Our graduates have gone on to launch their own businesses, become coaches in their communities, and drive transformation in their neighborhoods.”
Personal Stories of Transformation
Hayat, a former participant in a football-based educational program, shared her transformative experience. “I discovered the confidence, strength, and voice I once lacked. Today, I am pursuing my dream career and living my passion,” she remarked, highlighting the life-changing impact of sports.
Hackathon for Innovative Solutions
In tandem with the forum, a hackathon will be held, involving physical education and sports teachers. The aim is to develop innovative educational and social solutions to address barriers to girls’ participation in sports in the school environment, as outlined by the event organizers.
