NUDCCW Convention Brings Together 200 for Faith and Fellowship
TRACY, MN — The New Ulm Diocese Council of Catholic Women (NUDCCW) hosted its 64th annual convention in Tracy, drawing approximately 200 attendees eager to explore ways to deepen their Catholic faith while fostering community connections. The gathering took place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where many from southwest and southern Minnesota engaged in discussions during a lunch break.
Leadership Changes and Recognition
Sharon Illikman, president of the NUDCCW Board, expressed her joy at the event’s turnout. “It gives me joy that this many people wanted to come and participate,” she stated. The agenda included electing new leadership, with Lori Timmerman officially becoming the board president-elect and Amy Waibel stepping in as treasurer. A significant highlight of the day was the presentation of the 2025 Woman of the Year award to Dorothy Vandendriessche from the Holy Redeemer parish in Marshall, who expressed her humility at receiving such an honor.
Mass and Engaging Speakers
The convention featured a Mass celebrated by Bishop Emeritus John M. LeVoir, along with presentations from guest speakers. This year, discussions were centered on how members could embody the theme of ‘bold believers’ in their everyday lives. The keynote speaker, Camille Pauley, co-founder and president of the nonprofit Healing the Culture, discussed fostering a pro-life culture.
Breakout Sessions and Community Advocacy
Participants also attended various breakout sessions. Notably, U.S. Representative Brad Finstad shared insights on civic engagement, emphasizing the importance of local participation in policymaking. “You’ve got to start in your backyard,” he advised attendees, urging them to reach out and connect with local government representatives. Finstad noted how personal interactions can lead to more meaningful discussions than standard communication methods.
Hope and Community Connection
Illikman reflected positively on the event’s success, highlighting the connections formed among women from various parishes. She stated, “I find a lot of hope in that, and beauty.” The convention not only served as a formal meeting but as a vital platform for women to unite, share experiences, and invigorate their commitment to their faith.
