TechWomen Expands Reach to Albania: Empowering Women in STEM
Tiranë, Albania, December 13, 2024 — The U.S. Department of State’s TechWomen program is set to expand into Albania, providing new opportunities for women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). This fully funded five-week exchange program will take place in the United States in September and October 2025, with applications open from now until January 7, 2025.
A Commitment to Empowering Women through Global Networks
Since its inception in 2011, TechWomen has successfully connected women leaders in STEM from various countries with mentors in the U.S. tech sector. What started with 37 Emerging Leaders from seven countries in the MENA region has blossomed into a diverse community of 1,233 alumnae from 21 nations, supported by over 1,200 mentors in the United States.
This new initiative in Albania is part of TechWomen’s mission to enhance women’s leadership in STEM, fostering cultural exchange and professional growth through collaboration with established U.S. tech companies. Selected participants will engage in hands-on projects, workshops, and leadership training aimed at skill development and global networking.
Albania: A Growing Hub for STEM Innovation
The decision to include Albania in the TechWomen initiative follows Secretary Antony Blinken’s announcement of strategic program expansions. Albania represents a crucial addition as it positions itself as a burgeoning center for STEM and entrepreneurial ventures.
Recent investments, such as the Corridor VIII infrastructure project, along with the U.S. Department of State’s Global Innovation through Science and Technology (GIST) Innovates the Balkans program, have bolstered the region’s potential for technological advancement.
Albanian women participating in this program can join a legacy of previous alumnae who have utilized their TechWomen experiences to create impactful solutions in health, education, environmental sustainability, and more.
Application Process and Details
Applications for this transformative opportunity are open until January 7, 2025. Albanian women pursuing careers in STEM are encouraged to apply and take advantage of the unmatched mentorship and networking opportunities offered by this program.
