Ursinus Introduces the Women in Technology and Science Club
This semester, Ursinus College is excited to announce the launch of a new initiative: the Women in Technology and Science Club (WiTS).
A Supportive Space for Women in STEM
Morgan McCracken, a sophomore and president of WiTS, highlights the club’s mission to provide a welcoming environment for women pursuing science and technology degrees. She acknowledges the unique challenges faced by women in these fields, which are often male-dominated, making it vital to create a supportive community where students can unwind and share their passion for science.
The club aims to foster a sense of belonging and solidarity among its members, empowering women to persevere in their studies while also recognizing the importance of relaxation and self-care.
Engaging Activities and Community Building
WiTS meets once or twice a month, featuring a range of fun events designed to bring members together. This fall, participants can look forward to a science-themed coloring night and game nights that may include Kahoot, bingo, and trivia. McCracken assures that WiTS is open to women from diverse majors, not just those in traditional fields like Biology, Chemistry, or Physics.
An Inclusive Invitation
The club welcomes students who may only be minoring in science-related fields, embracing the broader range of female participation in STEM. Ursinus offers numerous programs tailored for women interested in science and technology, including Psychology, Neuroscience, Pre-Medicine, Health Science, Environmental Science, Marine Science, Public Health, and Computer Science.
With the guidance of its executive board members, Morgan McCracken (President), Madison Smith (Vice President), Jess Sokolski (Secretary), and Hayley Kane (Treasurer), the Women in Technology and Science Club is poised to create an inclusive and empowering environment for all its members. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming meetings and events!
