Empowering Muslim Women: Free Fitness Sessions During Ramadan
Across the UK, free exercise sessions are being offered to support Muslim women in maintaining their fitness levels during the holy month of Ramadan.
Fitness Sessions in Birmingham
In Ward End, Birmingham, fitness coach Selina Hussain is leading these sessions, which have been thoughtfully adapted for those who are fasting. This includes workouts that are lower in intensity and of shorter duration.
Breaking Myths about Exercise during Ramadan
Ms. Hussain emphasizes the importance of staying active during Ramadan, saying, “There is a common misconception that you should refrain from exercising during this month. If you ensure proper hydration during your pre-dawn meal, it’s perfectly fine to engage in physical activity.”
Building Bridges through Inclusive Fitness
The exercise classes not only focus on physical fitness but also encourage conversations about discipline during Ramadan. Additionally, women of all backgrounds are invited to participate.
Ms. Hussain shares, “We aim to bridge gaps between communities by promoting inclusivity and diversity. Our discussions revolve around the benefits of fasting and the reasons behind it, fostering a space for knowledge and understanding.”
Growing Community Support
Since its launch in June 2024, Inspiring Fitness has expanded to include 39 locations throughout the UK, continuing its mission to empower women and foster community connections.
