Elon Doubles Teams Shine at ITA Regionals

Elon University Women’s Tennis Excels at ITA Carolina Regionals

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team made notable progress at the ITA Carolina Regionals held at the Chewning Tennis Center, with two doubles teams advancing in the main draw following successful matches on Friday.

Strong Doubles Performances

In a dynamic first-round match, the duo of Alexis Nyborg and Helen Sarikulaya secured a victory over East Carolina’s Veronika Pavlenko and Xenia Jeromin with a final score of 8-5. Both Nyborg and Sarikulaya previously earned spots in the singles draw, showcasing their skills on the court.

The pair is set to compete against the third-seeded team from NC State, consisting of Jasmine Conway and Anna Zyryanova, in the upcoming second round.

Meanwhile, Cornelia Kack and Lisa Kranec also triumphed in their first-round matchup, defeating McKenzie Davis and Roxana Valdez from Presbyterian with a score of 8-3. This duo will face the ninth-seeded team from South Carolina, made up of Anna Bella Bianca Bergqvist Larsson and Kaitlyn Carnicella, on Saturday.

Singles Competition Results

Elon had three players representing the university in the singles draw on Friday; however, all competitors faced challenging matchups in the first round:

  • No. 5 seed Eleana Yu from Duke defeated Simone Bergeron (Elon) 6-2, 6-3
  • Alana Boyce (North Carolina) overcame Alexis Nyborg 6-4, 6-1
  • Ava Krug (Duke) defeated Helen Sarikulaya 6-3, 6-4

Upcoming Matches

As the tournament continues, Elon athletes will participate in both the main doubles and consolation singles draws on Saturday, striving for success and aiming to advance further in the competition.
