Police Seek Suspect After Violent Lottery Robbery of Elderly Woman
Authorities are actively searching for a suspect identified as Diego Stalin Tavarez Fleury, who was allegedly recorded on surveillance footage violently robbing an 83-year-old woman of her lottery winnings shortly after she collected them from a convenience store.
Details of the Incident
The troubling incident transpired just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday outside a convenience store located on Curry Ford Road, near the intersection of S. Goldenrod Road in Orlando, Florida, as reported by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
In the posted surveillance video, the unnamed elderly woman is seen leaving the store with what appears to be her lottery winnings. As she approaches her car, Fleury is captured walking directly towards her, attempting to forcibly grab the money from her hands while she struggles to defend herself.
Good Samaritan’s Attempt to Help
During the troubling exchange, another customer, who was also in the convenience store, comes outside in an apparent attempt to intervene. However, this action prompts Fleury to escalate his attack on the woman, insisting on snatching her belongings while the good Samaritan tries to pull him away from her.
Despite the intervention, Fleury is seen dragging the elderly woman from her vehicle further into the parking lot, ultimately fleeing the scene with her lottery winnings in hand.
Ongoing Search for the Suspect
The suspect remains at large, wanted for charges of robbery, sudden snatching, and battery against a person aged 65 or older. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding Fleury’s whereabouts to reach out to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
