Presidential Women’s Health Initiative: A Milestone in Women’s Healthcare
Overview of the Initiative
Since its launch in July 2019, the Presidential Women’s Health Initiative has made substantial strides in advancing women’s healthcare across Egypt. The program primarily targets women aged 18 and above, providing essential services such as free screenings for breast cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.
Impressive Statistics
As reported by the Ministry of Health and Population, the initiative has facilitated over 60.5 million medical visits to date. This impressive total breaks down into:
- 22.7 million first-time visits
- 24.9 million periodic follow-ups
- 12.8 million irregular consultations
In addition to medical consultations, the program has successfully referred over 823,000 women for advanced diagnostic procedures, including mammograms and tumor sampling. Notably, 33,573 cases of breast cancer have been confirmed, with all patients receiving free treatment.
Healthcare Delivery and Support
The initiative operates through a robust network of 3,663 healthcare units and 102 hospitals across the nation, reflecting a comprehensive approach to women’s healthcare. Critical components of the program include:
- Over 446,000 mammograms conducted
- More than 51,000 tumor analyses performed
The program also engages a dedicated hotline, “100 Million Healthy Lives” at 15335, which has addressed 29,341 inquiries from women seeking medical advice and information.
Training and Future Outlook
To ensure ongoing support for the initiative, thousands of medical professionals have undergone specialized training. This continuous education is pivotal for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the healthcare services provided under the program.
As the initiative continues to roll out, its impact on women’s health—and public health in general—remains a focal point for the Egyptian healthcare system.
