The Hilton Hotel in Istanbul recently served as a venue for a significant meeting hosted by the Council of the Socialist International Women. This event included a key delegation from the Union of Women of the Sahrawi Movement for Peace (MSP), led by Meimouna Dleimi, who is not only a member of the Central Committee of the MSP but also the president of its Women’s Committee.
During the gathering, the Sahrawi delegation engaged with numerous other participants and held important discussions with Jannet Camilo, the president of the Socialist International Women.
The discussions centered on the pressing matters related to Western Sahara, highlighting the MSP’s dedication to advocating for a peaceful resolution that aims to alleviate the suffering of the Sahrawi people, particularly those in the refugee camps located in Tindouf.
Moreover, the MSP’s commitment to promoting democracy and a multiparty system emerged as a focal point in their dialogue, marking a departure from the decades of governance under a single-party system represented by the Polisario Front.

During their participation, the delegation presented Jannet Camilo with the MSP’s political program, which includes a proposal aimed at resolving the Western Sahara issue through a compromise solution that avoids winners and losers.
In addition to their engagement with Camilo, the delegation held further meetings with various other participating groups.

This gathering marked a significant milestone, as it was the MSP women’s delegation’s first participation in the Socialist International Women’s Council since the organization welcomed the new Sahrawi political entity into its fold. The Socialist International is a global affiliation comprising over 130 social democratic and progressive parties.
Meimouna Dleimi was accompanied by several key MSP figures, including Fatma Daud, who chairs the MSP’s Committee for Civil Society; Mokhtara Lareibi from the Ouad Deheb Coordination Committee; and Saadani Ahel Bah from the MSP Centre for Political and Strategic Studies.

The delegation’s activities in Istanbul were complemented by the presence of Mohammed Cherif, a Central Committee member and head of international relations for the MSP.
