Drake University Women’s Basketball Season Kickoff
Excitement Builds Ahead of the New Season
The Drake University women’s basketball team is gearing up for the start of their season, which begins on November 3. In a recent media day event, players and coaching staff expressed their excitement about the season’s prospects and the opportunities that lie ahead for Bulldog fans.
New Roster, New Opportunities
Head coach Allison Pohlman is particularly enthusiastic about the upcoming season, especially considering the team’s new roster dynamics. With 11 out of 13 players ready to take the court, she believes this will allow for comprehensive development and adaptability throughout the season.
“We have something special in store this season,” Pohlman stated. “We are lucky enough to be ranked fourth in the preseason polls, and that means there is room to grow and step up to each challenge we face.”
Players to Watch This Season
Sophomore guard Lexi Carlsen, who transferred from Northern Illinois University, cited the welcoming atmosphere of Drake’s community as a significant factor in her decision to join the Bulldogs. She emphasizes the importance of the environment that surrounds the Knapp Center, which enhances not only the playing experience but also the overall team culture.
“A big part of my decision to go to Drake was the atmosphere that the Bulldog community facilitates,” Carlsen remarked. “I am so excited to step onto the court in blue and get to be a part of this group of girls.”
Returning Talent Ready to Shine
Alongside fresh faces, returning players are poised to maintain the program’s legacy. Sophomore guard Peyton McCabe is eager to apply her experience from the previous season and contribute to the team’s success.
“I am really looking forward to taking the court with some more experience and practice under me,” said McCabe. “We have been really working on team communication and morale so that we are all on the same page going into November.”
Looking Ahead to Opening Games
With the season opener against Eastern Illinois University set for November 3, followed by a home game against Creighton University on November 9, the team is eager to showcase its hard work and dedication from the offseason.
As anticipation grows, players and coaches alike are ready to put their preparations to the test and demonstrate their commitment to success in the Missouri Valley Conference.
