As May arrives, it brings with it the observance of Women’s Health Month, a crucial reminder for women to prioritize their own health—often overshadowed by their roles in caring for others. Dr. Yesmean Wahdan, a Board-Certified OB/GYN and the Medical Affairs Head for Women’s Health at Bayer, has recently highlighted vital health advice for women across various age groups during a nationwide satellite media tour.
Understanding Women’s Unique Health Journey
Women undergo distinctive health milestones throughout their lives, making proactive healthcare essential. Dr. Wahdan emphasizes the importance of annual checkups, particularly OB/GYN visits, as a foundational step in maintaining health. She urges women to stay informed about the changes that accompany aging and to engage openly with healthcare providers regarding any health concerns.
Key Recommendations from Dr. Wahdan
- Regular Health Checkups: Prioritizing routine care allows women to address their evolving health needs effectively.
- Managing Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, from premenstrual symptoms to menopause, can greatly affect well-being. Education combined with lifestyle adjustments can help alleviate associated symptoms.
- Nutrition and Gut Health: A diet rich in fiber supports digestion and overall wellness. Dr. Wahdan notes that many women may lack essential nutrients like Vitamin D, Iron, and Vitamin E.
- Informed Reproductive Choices: Consulting with a healthcare provider is vital to select a contraceptive method that aligns with each woman’s lifestyle and health requirements.
