Idaho Vandals Dominate Walla Walla with 94-39 Victory

Moscow, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women’s Basketball team showcased an impressive performance during their home opener, defeating Walla Walla 94-39 at ICCU Arena on Sunday afternoon. This win marks a historical milestone in head coach Arthur Moreira’s era, highlighting both individual and team achievements.

Game Highlights

  • Final Score: Idaho 94, Walla Walla 39
  • Records: Idaho (2-1), Walla Walla (1-2)
  • Top Performers:
    • Sofia Ekh – 16 points
    • Catelyn Deaver – 8 rebounds
    • Kyra Gardner – 5 assists

Impressive Individual Performances

Freshman Sofia Ekh made a significant impact in her first collegiate game, scoring 16 points while shooting 4-5 from long range. Additionally, Ella Uriarte notched a career-high with 14 points, further contributing to the Vandals’ offensive success. Kyra Gardner also impressed with a career-high five assists, showcasing a well-rounded team effort that saw five players scoring in double figures.

Defensive Mastery

In a noteworthy defensive showcase, the Vandals allowed only two points in the first quarter—a feat not accomplished since facing Sacramento State in January. They finished the game with their best defensive outing of the season, permitting just 39 points, the least amount allowed during Moreira’s coaching tenure.

Team Momentum

The Vandals established an early lead, with Ana Pinheiro starting the scoring just 12 seconds into the game. After momentarily trailing 2-0, Idaho never looked back, controlling the pace throughout the match. With a final score of 94-39, it’s reported to be the largest margin of victory for the Vandals under Moreira, surpassing the previous record with a 56-point gap against CSUN in 2015.

Upcoming Match

The Vandals’ next challenge will be against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Saturday, November 15, with tipoff scheduled for 2 p.m. Fans can catch the game on ESPN+. Tickets are available through the Vandal ticket office.
