Suspension of DMK Functionary

Deivaseyal, who served as Deputy Secretary in the youth wing of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), has been suspended following serious allegations made by his wife. She accused him of torturing, sexually harassing, and ‘grooming’ young women to engage with politicians, igniting significant political turmoil in the state.

According to the accusations, Deivaseyal coerced several 20-year-old women into sexual relationships with political figures. His wife has described a troubling environment characterized by manipulation and abuse.

Government and Commission Response

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken notice of the reports, labeling the allegations as both “disturbing” and “grave.” Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the NCW, has requested the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police to conduct a prompt, fair, and transparent inquiry into the matter. The Commission has also directed local police to file a case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and submit a detailed Action Taken Report along with the FIR within three days.

Opposition Activism

In response to these allegations, the opposition party, AIADMK, has announced plans to hold protests in Ranipet district. This is a reaction to the complaint of a 21-year-old woman who claims that Deivaseyal deceived her under false pretenses of marriage and attempted to exploit her relationships with other influential DMK leaders.

Previous Complaints

The woman further stated that she had previously lodged several complaints against Deivaseyal, but no action had been taken. Her allegations include daily physical abuse when she resisted his efforts.
