Deniz Dilek, a freshman on the Georgia women’s tennis team, showcased her impressive skills this past weekend at the ITA All-American Championships. She secured two significant wins in the pre-qualifying singles rounds, allowing her to advance further in the competition.
In her opening match, Dilek faced off against Mary Grace Rennard from North Carolina, where she delivered a dominant performance, winning in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-2. Following this victory, she continued her strong form against TCU’s Raquel Caballero Chica. After a hard-fought battle, Dilek emerged victorious with a three-set match, concluding with a final score of 6-2, 3-6, 7-6(3).
The tournament schedule continues with the qualifying rounds taking place from September 22 to 23. On Monday, Dilek is set to compete against Pepperdine’s Alexia Harmon, who is ranked No. 97, at 9 a.m. Additionally, Georgia’s Patricija Paukstyte, ranked No. 110, will face Stanford’s Caroline Driscoll, ranked No. 58, at 11:30 a.m. Georgia’s Sofia Rojas, ranked No. 100, is also in action, competing against Notre Dame’s Sophia Holod at noon.
As the tournament progresses, the main draw is scheduled to take place from September 24 to 28 at Cary Tennis Park. This event promises to bring together some of the top talents in collegiate tennis, making it an exciting time for competitors and fans alike.
