Denver NWSL Breaks Ground on Temporary Stadium

CENTENNIAL, Colo. — On Monday, Denver’s National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) team officially commenced construction on a temporary stadium in Centennial, marking a significant development for women’s sports in the region.

Stadium Overview

In March, plans were unveiled for a new 14,500-seat stadium located at Santa Fe Yards, specifically at Broadway and Interstate 25 in Denver. This long-term facility is anticipated to open in spring 2028. Until then, the Denver NWSL will utilize a temporary stadium situated near South Potomac Street and East Fremont Avenue.

Facilities and Features

The temporary venue is set to accommodate 12,000 spectators and will include a state-of-the-art training facility spanning 20,000 square feet. This performance center will feature:

  • Soccer fields
  • Recovery facilities
  • Strength and conditioning spaces
  • A video analysis theater

Remarks from Officials

Rob Cohen, the controlling owner of Denver NWSL, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We’re just getting started, but breaking ground today on the performance center is a huge step. We’re building something our athletes can be proud of, and we couldn’t do it without the incredible support of the City of Centennial and Cherry Creek Schools.”

Community Collaboration

The Cherry Creek School District Board of Education has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the team, allowing the district access to the stadium’s facilities, including the soccer fields. Furthermore, this partnership includes:

  • Internships and educational presentations from club staff
  • A donation of $100,000 to the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation

Centennial Mayor Stephanie Piko lauded the initiative, stating, “It’s exciting to see construction begin on a facility that will inspire athletes of all ages. This project represents a long-term investment in our students, city and the future of women’s sports.”

Looking Ahead

The yet-to-be-named Denver NWSL team is scheduled to start its inaugural season in 2026. For those interested in learning more about the team, including ticket information, further details can be found on official platforms.
