Denison Women’s Track and Field Team Shines at NCAC Indoor Championships
Oberlin, Ohio – After the first day of the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, the Denison women’s track and field team is proudly positioned in third place. Mariel Drost made history for the Big Red by clinching the program’s first All-NCAC title of the weekend.
With a total of 27 points scored on day one, the women achieved remarkable success, featuring two All-Conference performances and five top-eight finishes.
Day 1 Highlights
The day commenced with an outstanding performance by sophomore Mariel Drost, who was crowned the NCAC women’s weight throw champion with an impressive throw of 13.90m. Drost’s triumph marks a significant milestone as she becomes the first athlete in the program’s history to win the NCAC weight throw title.
In another highlight, Denison’s relay team, consisting of Jane McNamara, Lillian Wallace Larkin, Evangelina Spoarks, and Fiona Martinelli, secured second place in the distance medley with a time of 12:47.31. Additional points for the Big Red were earned by Sydney Brown and Julia Schena, who competed in the pentathlon the previous week, contributing eight points to the team total. Emery Kurth also showcased her talents by finishing eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.46m.
