Concerned Women for America Calls for USOPC CEO Resignation
On October 29, 2025, Concerned Women for America (CWA) publicly urged Sarah Hirshland, the CEO of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC), to step down. The organization expressed concerns regarding her perceived failure to adequately address the issue of transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.
CWA’s Stand on Gender-Specific Sports
Penny Nance, CEO and President of CWA, emphasized that it is crucial for the USOPC to ensure the integrity and safety of women’s sports. “The USOPC CEO should resign for refusing to acknowledge and stand by the principle that women’s sport is for female athletes only,” stated Nance. “If Hirshland won’t stand up for women, she’s not worthy of leading the USOPC or representing our country.”
Hirshland’s Position on Eligibility Testing
When questioned by Fox News about the possibility of implementing genetic testing to determine eligibility for women’s events, Hirshland remarked, “Defining eligibility for competitions has to happen at the individual sport level, whether that’s globally or nationally.” This statement has drawn significant criticism from CWA.
Importance of Fair Competition
CWA argues that the USOPC has a responsibility to adopt measures like sex verification testing to ensure fair competition for female athletes. Nance added, “If Hirshland cannot support this testing that will provide fair competition for female athletes, she must go.”
Statistics on Medal Disparities
Data from the United Nations indicates that female athletes have forfeited nearly 900 medals to trans-identifying male competitors. Moreover, CWA research suggests that transgender athletes have claimed over 1,941 gold medals from women in the U.S. and have taken approximately $493,173 in prize money from female competitors in professional sports.
