CUNYAC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Highlights
This week, the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) recognized outstanding performances by female athletes in outdoor track and field. The accolades were awarded based on impressive showings during recent competitions.
Track Athlete of the Week
Thenica Thompson from Medgar Evers College distinguished herself by achieving a conference-leading time of 13.05 seconds in the 100-meter dash at the Lincoln University Invitational, where she secured a sixth-place finish. Additionally, she earned fourth place in the 200-meter event with a time of 27.49 seconds. Thompson contributed significantly to her team as part of the 4×100 relay (51.94 seconds) and the 4×400 relay (4:35.39), both of which recorded the fastest times within the conference.
Field Athlete of the Week & Rookie of the Week
Rinnah Brown, also from Medgar Evers, made headlines as she broke the program record in the long jump, leaping an impressive 4.94 meters during the same Lincoln event. Moreover, she finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 9.83 meters, currently ranking her second in the conference standings. In addition to her field events, Brown participated in both MEC relays, securing second place in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:13.75, which is the second-best in the conference. She also achieved commendable finishes, including fourth in the 400 meters (1:03.83), and fifth in both the 200 meters (27.91 seconds) and 100 hurdles (17.90 seconds).
Honorable Mention
Shannon Ferri from Hunter College claimed an honorable mention by setting the best conference time in the 5000-meter run so far this season, completing the race in 20:05.26 at the Paul Donahue Invitational held at Widener University.
